What is the Theft Insurance and what does it cover?

Our Theft Insurance is a yearly subscription plan to protect your bike against theft and damage from a theft attempt.

Here is a summary of the main advantages of the Theft Insurance:

  • Insurance in case of theft, or damage following an attempted theft.

  • 24/7 roadside assistance in your country and within 20km outside of borders (BE, NL, FR, DE) or emergency cash (IT & UK)

  • 100% coverage of the value of your bike for the first three years (except France and Italy, 90%), then progressive depreciation

  • Theft notifications in case of theft

  • Coverage for 5 years maximum

Can I use the Theft Insurance on a Circular bike?

Yes, Circular bikes are eligible for the Theft Insurance.

Can I use the Theft Insurance on a second-hand bike?

If you have bought your bike from another rider, the bike will be considered as second-hand and will not be eligible to the Theft Insurance.

The only second-hand bikes that can be insured are the Circular Bikes when they are bought directly with us.

Where is the Theft Insurance available?

You can order the Theft Insurance if your official residence is in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy or the United Kingdom.

You are covered in case of theft in the following countries: the European Union, Great Britain, the Principalities of Andorra and Monaco, the Vatican, Iceland, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, and Switzerland. This means that your bike is also insured if you take it on holiday in one of those countries.

If your official residence changes from one country to another, please immediately get in touch with the insurer at [email protected]. In the frame of the insurance, for each address change even within the same country, please also get in touch with the insurer at [email protected].

Can I subscribe to the Theft Insurance if I am leasing my bike?

Leasing partners traditionally offer an insurance within their offer. It is therefore not possible to order the Theft Insurance if you are leasing your bike.

If you purchased your bike through Cyclescheme (UK) or Fietsplan (NL), then it is possible to order the Theft Insurance afterwards, since there was no insurance included in your purchase. You can simply subscribe to the Theft Insurance through your app once you received your bike.

How do I subscribe to the Theft Insurance?

If we offer Theft Insurance in your country (see here), you can either subscribe directly at check out when purchasing a bike, or in the app after you have activated your bike.

  • If you have already activated your bike, you can subscribe through the app directly.

  • If you subscribe at checkout before receiving the bike, you will receive 2 emails to set up your insurance:

    • A first email to finalise your insurance by answering a couple of questions (this needs to happen within 14 days after subscribing). Finalising the insurance doesn't kick off the insurance period so you should do this even if you did not receive the bike yet.

    • A second email with a 6-figure code. Once you have received and activated your bike, you will need to input this code in the Cowboy app in the Theft Insurance section. The insurance will then be linked to your bike and your insurance will start running.

Can I purchase my insurance now and activate it later?

  • If you purchase the insurance when ordering your bike, you can activate it whenever you like, thanks to the 6-digit code that you will receive per email after finalising your subscription.

  • If you purchase the insurance after activating your bike, then the insurance will be activated automatically and directly.

I have an issue when activating the insurance, what should I do?

Usually, when there is an issue with the activation of the Theft Insurance, you will be blocked at the stage where you need to add your birthdate. If it is the case, simply get in touch with the team through the chat in your app and they will solve the issue.

How do I renew my subscription to the Theft Insurance?

You will receive several reminder emails from us a few weeks before the yearly expiration date of your insurance, with a payment link to proceed to the renewal. Using this link will allow you to be insured for one more year.

How do I cancel my Theft Insurance subscription?

Cancelling your insurance or insurance renewal is very easy. To cancel your insurance or insurance renewal officially, you can simply fill out this form: https://forms.qover.com/230021764194349?language=en&cigarid=BE10xxxxxx&email=xxxxxxx.

Why was my insurance cancelled?

As long as you paid your Insurance premium on time, your bike remains insured.

If you have an issue with the insurance being marked as cancelled, please first make sure that you paid the premium before the expiration date of your insurance.

If you did not pay on time, then your subscription will end, but you will be able to re-subscribe to the Insurance through the app as long as the bike is less than 5 years old.

If you did pay on time for the renewal, and the app did not update it, simply get in touch with the team through the chat in your app and an agent will do the necessary to solve the issue.

How do I transfer the Theft Insurance?

There are three different cases where you may want/need to transfer the insurance:

  • If you want to transfer the insurance because you are selling your bike, kindly note that the Insurance is linked to one policy holder and therefore cannot be transferred to someone else. If you sell your bike, you will need to get in touch with Qover ([email protected]) to ask them to cancel your insurance with immediate effect and be refunded for the unused premium.

  • If you received a new bike that has the same price of the previous bike you had, and you would like to transfer the insurance to this new bike, simply get in touch with the team through the chat in your app. They will do the necessary to transfer your account and insurance to your new bike.

  • If you received a new bike that has a different price than the previous bike, then please fill out this form to explain the situation to the insurer. They will be able to refund the unused premium, and you will be able to purchase the insurance again from your Cowboy app once you are linked with the new bike.
